Sex Said: Feminism and Art
Begun as an exploration and research of artists such as Barbara Kruger and Jenny Holzer for a 20th Century Art History course, 'Sex Said' formed into a series of artworks out of a desire to speak openly about the influence of sex and sexuality in the collegiate world and beyond. The double standards and open/closed/coded discussion between lovers, friends, and family in today's society about sexual choices has created an uneven and somewhat precarious ground for young women today. The art created through this series aims to be blunt and honest about addressing the missed and mangled communication that occurs between two or more people when coming of age in a very modern and progressive, yet 'hush-hush' time in America.
